We were very pleased to get together with all UPSIDERs in Delft, the Netherlands, on the 22 and 23 of September 2022 for our kick-off meeting. It was a great chance, to meet in person with everyone for a first time, introduce our teams and our work plan ahead for the next 4 exciting years ahead of us.
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting 300 million people with a lifetime prevalence of 15% . Approximately one third of all MDD patients fail to respond to currently established treatments based on medication and psychotherapy. The UPSIDE project proposes an Epidural Brain Interface (EBI) featuring a minimally invasive, responsive neural stimulation system that utilizes focused ultrasound. Our goal is to research and validate in vivo the EBI by addressing several technological barriers!
